I agree that in general the peep works great closest to the eye. I have, however, run into a couple of situations where a barrel mounted peep works great.I have 8 SKS rifles, if memory serves, and I've put somewhere around 30,000 rounds through ALL of them, combined. I've never tried to keep track of the rounds that each rifle has fired, although it probably would have been wise to do so.
