On the third expedition, he dies. This is what happens to 99% of people, but supposedly he CAN return alive from the expedition, and when he returns he has new wares ...Reset firelink then talk to patches and answer yes so he will safe Greirat.Do this before killing pontiff. Kill Old Demon King (the easiest)/Pontiff and Greirat will return. If you want to proceed Siegward questline while having Patches to save Greirat, DO NOT light irithyll dungeon bonfire and dont kill the invader.After all, Greirat ashes state that he didn't steal out of greed, but rather to help the needy. Side note, that whole speech on human's greed made me view Patches in a completely different light. He's no longer just some troll, but really seems to be trying to teach people a lesson in greed.
